About Lawrence Schimel

Award-winning author and anthologist living in in Madrid and writing in both Spanish and English, who has published over 100 books in a wide range of genres: children's books, poetry, essays, erotica, comics, even a cookbook. I have twice won a Lambda Literary Award, as well as an IPPY, a Spectrum Award, a Rhysling Award, etc. My children’s book No hay nada como el original (Destino, 2004) was selected by the International Youth Library in Munich for the White Ravens 2005 and his children's book ¿Lees un libro conmigo? (Panamericana, 2005) was selected by the International Board of Books for Young People as an Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities 2007.

My work has been translated into Basque, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Dutch, Esperanto, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovene, Slovak, and Spanish.

I served two terms as co-chair of the Publishing Triangle, a US organization of lesbians and gay men in the publishing industry, and five years as the Regional Advisor of the Spain Chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
