Started making trouble in grade school in the Boston area, made it constructive trouble at Brown and the University of Chicago, and brought the construction to a head in a string of influential monographs on higher education that demonstrated how tractable and smart both governments and foundations can be. Had three non-fiction books between 1972 and 1994 that I cringe at opening now, and have turned to fiction with "The Russian Embassy Party" (2013---and not a spy novel), with two more down in the kitchen with all ingredients waiting to be mixed. Not exactly a wall flower.
