About Alan Gadney

Alan Gadney, Publisher/Author has written and published/co-published 21 books, and written 11 screenplays. His first book was awarded “Outstanding Reference Book of the Year” from the prestigious American Library Association, was selected by 7 national book clubs, and sold out 3 printings. He was one of the founders of Publishers Marketing Association/PMA (now IBPA/Independent Book Publishers Association) in 1983. And he was technical editor of The Self-Publishing Manual (Dan Poynter, Para Publishing).  Alan has over 35 years experience in independent book publishing.

Through his company (One On One Book Production & Marketing), Alan and his wife, Carolyn Porter, have designed, produced and marketed over 300 book projects. Their books have won many book awards, including IBPA/Ben Franklin, Independent Publisher/IPPY, Forward Magazine, National Best Book awards, and many other honors. Alan’s films have won 48 international awards.

Alan also wrote, directed, edited and co-produced 2 feature films: Moonchild (starring Victor Buono, John Carradine) and West Texas, which won 48 international awards in 12 countries (including at Cannes, France). Both were distributed theatrically, on television, and DVD. He was also a television journalist (CBS, Tampa, Florida), wrote for CBS-TV The Interns, and has taught production, marketing and finance through USC, UCLA and other educational institutions, over 60 courses in all.

He has a BA degree from Florida State University, and has completed his MA degree in Cinema from the University of Southern California (USC School of Cinema-Television). For several years, Alan was also a high-wire walker, unicyclist, and trapeze aerialist with the Florida State Flying High Circus.
