The Concrete Ceiling

The cost of breaking through

Mike’s hand hovers over the mouse. He hesitates, then clicks Submit. He’s hoping for a few more sales for his languishing self-published thriller, and the offer in front of him looks irresistible. He knows he’s paid over the odds, but if it works, maybe he’ll break through the recognition barrier at last. He has no inkling of the drastic consequences that will follow.

Looming in the midst of his troubles is the enigmatic Nick Hathaway. He oozes goodwill… but does he have a hidden agenda? Mike can’t resist digging into his background, but will his efforts bring him closer to Samantha, the woman he's fallen for in spite of himself? It’s soon looking as though he’ll merely alienate her. And while he’s wrestling with that, he finds himself accused of a crime he didn’t commit.

Ranging between London and Los Angeles, The Concrete Ceiling is the most breathless, event-packed novel so far from author Peter Rowlands, featuring vivid and engaging characters, an engrossing mystery and a stunning succession of surprises.

" I wanted to read the whole thing without interruptions."

"We read ebooks every day but don't think of the process the author goes through to get the book to us. ... The story had numerous twists and turns . ... Great read!"

About Peter Rowlands

Peter been writing “since I was about ten,” he says, but it took him many years to turn his attention to the mystery thriller market. When he did, he set his action firmly in the here and now, building his stories round a character who, like him, is a specialist journalist working in the world of transportation and logistics. “He’s an ordinary guy who finds himself in extraordinary situations,” Peter says.

There’s a strong romantic thread running through the writing. “I’m conscious that a lot of people find relationships fascinating, and I’m one of them, so I write what I enjoy reading.” But he adds, “My books are by no means romances as such. My characters have their feet firmly on the ground. But their love life is important to them, and becomes an integral part of most of my stories.”

Peter was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in north-east England, but has spent his adult life in London, and has travelled widely over the years. For many years he published, edited and contributed to UK business magazines, and was one of the first editors to cover the mechanics of home shopping deliveries during the e-commerce revolution.
