"What a great read! The author brings you into an amazing world filled with wonderful characters and seemingly impromptu adventures that bring out the story's magic. Her knowledge of horses is quite obvious in the way she describes them and their actions, same with the setting/time period of the world she created. I'm usually picky about main characters being princesses, but in this case it's fantastic. I adore a strong and curious leading lady who doesn't fall for the first male she lays eyes on in the first five minutes of a story only to become head over heels. The chemistry between characters leaves me wanting more interactions, the witty banter leaves you grinning like a fool. This is one of those stories that was hard for me to put down, but at the same time as I got closer to the end I paced myself because I didn't want it to end quite yet. The struggle was real. Well worth a read, highly recommend if you love fantasy adventures. I can not wait for the next book! I loved this book so much I handed it off to my mother to read, next I will be dropping it in my husband lap."
"I am extremely particular when I pick up a book. Fictional heroines must be smart, stand up for themselves, and have an unstoppable, take-no-prisoners attitude. Enter Gellia. And with her, you'll find all ingredients for a prime fantasy novel-- thrilling gallops on magnificent horses, age-old secrets, voices whispering in the castle, arch enemies in battle, and a mysterious stranger who keeps us in suspense about his loyalties from the moment he appears."
GB was born in a small town in Vermont, and grew up in the country and attending a rural school. She started telling stories to her toys from a young age, writing her first short story in second grade. They've always been of the fantasy genre, because who doesn't want to let their imagination travel as far as it can? But they've also been about real life: betrayal, suspicion, joy, war, triumph, self doubt, all that good stuff. ...And unicorns and dragons!
Growing up her hobbies were showing her horses, lots of reading, and creating art. As she aged and life changed circumstances (she moved to the city where having horses wasn't possible) she added folkloric belly dance, costuming, and entertaining in her home to her list of activities.
The Avenzyre series has been in the works for better than 20 years, and so far there are ten novels written and waiting for revisions. AWAKE is only a taste of the feast to come. Keep an eye out, because GB is diligently working on getting the next one out as soon as possible.
Currently she lives just a short drive from Lake Ontario where there is lots of snow, in a rambling old colonial house with her family and pets.
