A Good Little Girl

A Good Little Girl reveals the powerful lessons learned from growing up as an unwanted child, doing my best to exist.  But, lacking self-esteem and guidance, always seeking to please, the forces of evil lurking everywhere, the stage was set for a violent, explosive husband to seize control for two harrowing decades.

Though a personal story, many women will relate to the situations confronted.  Neglect, abandonment, physical, sexual, mental, and emotional abuse, bad decisions, anorexia, cancer, suicidal thoughts, you name it:  this woman experienced it all.  Feeling defeated, deflated, frightened, and alone became the "norm."  Yet the "good little girl" possesses strengths that manage to spirit her through all kinds of adversity.

Originally intended as an autobiographical piece for my children, written in hopes that it would provide them with a history and a better understanding of the person of the past, and the person today.  As the writing process progressed, the realization came that others could benefit from witnessing this journey of a true survivor.

5.0 out of 5 starsA Very Insightful Book

A Good Little Girl is a book for everyone. If you are struggling with issues of abuse, this is a first-hand account from someone who has been there, who managed to break loose and ultimately live a fulfilling life. If you care about someone who is being abused and you don’t understand why that person can’t magically escape the situation, this book shows in great detail how a compliant, good little girl is created. Kenzie O’Hara has been there and is sharing her life experiences, from being abandoned for an afternoon at a very young age to ultimately being left to fend for herself as a teen. You see the choices she made and the reasoning behind them. It is fascinating and heartbreaking—and I wasn’t able to put it down.

I'm not finished with the book but it's very intriguing and has captivated my interest. To think that Kenzie actually lived the life she described is unbelievable.

I love it when someone shares my humor when talking about struggles...if it weren't for laughter, I don't know where I'd be. I felt like I had to DRAG plenty of people out of abusive relationships in my lifetime and it's hard.....this made me realize the missing pieces to my thoughts on the subject. I'm reading and enjoying every page!!!
