Have you considered appearing on a podcast? Podcasts are one of the best ways to boost your author brand.
By appearing on relevant podcasts, you have the chance to spread the word about yourself as an author, and let people know about your latest projects. Even better, you get to share your personality while doing so, increasing your likeability.

- Why podcasts are worth your time
- A step by step process for appearing on podcasts
- A list of relevant podcasts for your consideration
There are many reasons I personally love appearing on podcasts, and I think you’ll agree that they make podcasts more than worth your time. From an author branding perspective, podcasts are great because:
- Podcasts listeners enjoy their favorites on the go, meaning you become a familiar part of their life while they are on the road or in the gym
- Podcasts allow listeners to hear your voice. This shares your personality on a deeper level than through words alone, allowing you to become more likable and memorable.
- You reach a different audience than you would through only blog posts. Some people don’t have time to read but do have time to listen.
- You can use the show notes of podcasts you appear on to link out to your author website, or latest book.
Ultimately, podcasts are a popular platform that millions of people enjoy each day and using these steps you can start to reach out to major influencers in your market, which can be a big part to your book marketing tactics, as Self Publishing School shows in this article.
So how do you leverage the benefits of podcasts for your own author brand?
My Podcast Process
If it seems intimidating or difficult to learn how to appear on podcasts, don't let that hold you back. It’s actually a fairly straightforward process which you can easily follow. The key is being persistent and sticking with it until you start to see the results you want.
To get started, try following this simple step by step process:
1 - Create a Google Sheet, Trello board, or another tracking system for your podcast process
3 - Go to the homepage for each of the podcasts in turn. Find a contact email or URL for a contact form. Note it down on your tracking document.
4 - Try and determine that each podcast is definitely suitable for you. For example, are they accepting guests? Do you have the right level of experience for that podcast in particular?
5 - When you have a list of 5-10 podcasts that are suitable for your author situation, are accepting guests, and are contactable, it’s time to begin outreach.
6 - Contact each podcast. Don’t use a template. Take the time to write a personalized email to each podcast explaining why you would like to appear and the value you can offer to their audience.
7 - As responses come in, record them on your tracking document. Schedule any acceptances you get onto your calendar/planner.
8 - After appearing on a podcast, be sure to promote your podcast on social media, and tag the host. This shows you are a good guest and increases your chances of being invited back in the future for another appearance.
Following the above steps allows you to be systematic and methodical in your approach to using podcasts to leverage your author brand.
