I first started out in the online world during my time serving overseas in the US Military. Being away from my family for long periods of time I started looking for a good use of my time and stumbled on the world of website building.
After learning the process of building niche websites and optimizing them for search engines, I came to a realization. Amazon itself is a search engine, albeit one oriented towards selling products. If I could learn to optimize products for Amazon, I would have a reliable way to make money online.
Books Were a Natural for an Avid Reader
My research led me to the conclusion that books were the perfect idea for me to focus on. I’ve always been a passionate reader. The thought of being able to make money as an author was amazing to me.
Soon, I came to realize that while writing and producing a top-notch the book was of course, important, success more often came down to one's marketing strategy. Building a solid author brand is the key to getting discovered and selling books for a self-published author (and even trad-published books). It's what separates the one-book-wonders from the authorpreneurs. As the eBook marketplace becomes increasingly crowded, it is critical to find ways to stand out from your competition.
How I Became the Kindlepreneur
I ended up learning so much about the process of keywords, book categories, author mailing lists, and other aspects of book promotion, that I decided to start my own authority website to freely share my knowledge with other authors.
This led to the formation of Kindlepreneur. I always intended it to be a high-quality resource, packed full of actionable how-to guides explaining the most effective book marketing strategies and tactics. The site has grown to the point where it is today where we enjoy 100,000 visitors a month.
I wanted to reach people through as many platforms as possible, so I started The Book Marketing Show. It’s a podcast where each episode features a successful name from the self-publishing world who shares their personal insight and experience with a particular book marketing tactic. My intention was to release information with enough depth for free that no one would ever have to buy an overpriced course again if they weren’t able to afford it.
The Launch of KDP Rocket
I also use video to share my ideas as well as my goofy sense of humor. My YouTube channel features videos complimenting my blog articles, as well as a free video course where I explain the process of advertising on Amazon in detail. I also released the KDP Rocket software as a response to my personal frustration with the process of book idea and competition research.
Outside of the writing and book promotion world, I live in Tennessee with my wife and children. My income from being an author and online marketer has allowed me to realize my dream of spending time with my loved ones at home. You can usually find me at the local coffee place or at one of my daughter’s softball games on the weekends.
